bio

I’ve been a PR practitioner for over a decade, in which time I’ve worked in four countries and been both a consultant and an in house PR officer.

Originally from the U.K. I’ve been in Asia since 1994, when I got an aeroplane for no discernible reason and wound up in Korea.  I got my early grounding in formal PR at Burson-Marsteller in Seoul before joining Kia Motors as head of international public relations.  In 2004 I got on another aeroplane and left Korea to work for Edelman in Malaysia. My work for Edelman took me back to Seoul in 2005 and then to Jakarta in 2008.  In 2010 I returned to Burson-Marsteller, this time in Singapore, as Managing Director, Brand Marketing and Training – a job that combines a local role heading the brand marketing practice in Singapore with a regional responsibility for marketing and training for the firm.

Professionally my focus is on integrated corporate communications, which gives me the good fortune of having worked with clients from many different industries and on many different projects.  My abiding interests are on corporate reputation, branding and measurement, the latter of which I think the PR industry as a whole has yet to address in a consistent and satisfactory manner.

I spent over 12 years living and working in Seoul, Korea, interrupted by a 2 year stint in Malaysia.  Before arriving in Singapore I spent 2 years in Indonesia, giving me 16 years in Asia and also the dubious distinction of having lived more than half my life outside my native UK.  My wife, a Korean who lived for 17 years in South America before agreeing to follow me around the world, holds the same distinction.

Outside of work and family, my interests include photography (some of which is displayed elsewhere on this site) and evolutionary theory.  I am also a member of Toastmasters International and a competitive public speaker.
